Home security cameras for apartments and villas in Jeddah
Many people in Jeddah live in apartments, and that changes the home camera question: what can I install inside my flat, and what needs the owner’s or other residents’ approval? Owners of villas and chalets on the northern coast have a different question: how do I choose cameras that will last for years in sea air?
We answer both below, and then you can request home cameras from licensed installers serving your district of Jeddah.

If you live in an apartment
Inside the flat you have more freedom, but the corridor, stairs and entrance are shared. The simplest answer is usually a video doorbell on your door that shows who is there on your phone, angled so it doesn’t look at the neighbours’ doors. If you want a camera in the corridor, get the owner’s or owners’ association’s approval first.
Inside, a small camera in the living room or by the entrance is enough for most people, especially with children or household staff. Tell your family and staff about it, and never place one in bedrooms or bathrooms.
Owners of apartment buildings
A Jeddah building owner usually asks for cameras at the main entrance, the parking, the meter room and the roof, with a video intercom at the entrance. Keep the recorder in a locked room and decide who may view recordings — the owner, the building caretaker or the managing company, and nobody else. More on our residential buildings page.
Villas and chalets by the sea
In Obhur and other areas near the sea, salt and humidity damage metal quickly. Choose outdoor cameras with a high protection rating and rust-resistant brackets, and ask for junction boxes to be sealed with proper sealant. A camera under a roof overhang lasts longer than one exposed directly to spray.
A chalet stands empty for many days, so phone alerts for movement help, as does an alarm system for doors and windows. Aim the cameras within the chalet’s boundaries, not at the public beach or neighbouring chalets.
The recorder while you travel in summer
Many Jeddah families travel in summer and switch off the air conditioning, so humidity and heat build up inside the closed home. A recorder and router in a closed, unventilated cupboard can fail in exactly this period — when you need the cameras most. Put the equipment somewhere ventilated, ask about a small backup power supply, and test phone viewing the day before you leave.
FAQ
Can I fit a camera outside my apartment door?
A video doorbell on your door is common and usually accepted, as long as it covers only your door. For larger cameras in the corridor, get the owner’s approval.
How often should cameras at a seaside villa be serviced?
There is no fixed rule, but checking for rust and sealing once or twice a year is a good idea, especially after the summer.
Do the cameras need internet?
Recording works without internet, but phone viewing and alerts need a connection — a fixed line or a data SIM.
Where can I read about privacy?
Our home camera privacy guide covers neighbours, household staff and recordings.
