For warehouses and storage
Cameras and security systems for warehouses
A warehouse is a large space with a lot of stock, lorries coming and going and workers on more than one shift — and it is often empty at night. Its camera system needs different planning from a shop: longer distances, weak lighting, and heat and dust in the yard.
Whether you have one warehouse in an industrial area or several stores for a distribution business, send one request and get quotes from licensed installers who know this kind of site.

What a warehouse usually needs
- Gate control: lorries, number plates and arrival times, to match against delivery notes.
- Loading and unloading areas, where most damage or disputes over quantities happen.
- Aisles between racks to see where stock is and how forklifts move.
- The perimeter and yard at night, with good night vision plus an intruder alarm on doors and entrances.
- Remote viewing for the manager or owner, with alerts for movement out of hours.
Where cameras go in a warehouse
Main gate
A camera angled to capture the front of the lorry and the plate, and a wider one covering the approach road.
Loading doors
A camera for each group of doors, mounted so a parked lorry does not block the view.
Aisles and racks
Cameras at the ends of aisles with lenses for the distance, allowing for rack height so the view is not blocked.
Perimeter and yard
Outdoor cameras with night vision and heat and dust protection on the corners, and enough lighting in the yard.
Warehouse office
The entrance and the office where paperwork and keys are handed over.
Where not to put cameras: toilets, changing rooms, workers’ accommodation if it is on site, and rest and prayer rooms. Don’t aim perimeter cameras at neighbouring warehouses or buildings more than necessary.
Fire alarms in warehouses
Warehouses get particular attention from Civil Defense, because stored goods may be flammable and the area is large. They usually need a fire alarm system with detectors suited to high ceilings, extinguishers and clear emergency exits, and a suppression system may be needed depending on the goods and the size. These requirements are tied to the warehouse’s licence through the official Civil Defense platforms.
These systems are installed and maintained by fire-safety contractors accredited with Civil Defense, and regular maintenance with records matters. More in our fire alarm and Civil Defense guide.
Access control and attendance
Not everyone on site needs to enter every area. Card or fingerprint access control sets who can enter the main store, the high-value goods room or the warehouse office, and logs each entry. The same device can record workers’ attendance across shifts.
At the gate, a barrier or automatic gate can be linked to a card reader for authorised vehicles, with a camera recording each entry.
Compliance notes for warehouses
The surveillance camera law and its implementing regulations may cover some warehouses depending on their activity and what they store, and set the areas to cover — such as entrances, exits and yards — and how long recordings are kept. Check what applies to yours in surveillance camera compliance and with a licensed installer.
Warehouse recordings show workers, drivers and number plates, so protect them with limited access and share them outside the business only through the proper channels.
What to include in your quote request
- Number and locations of warehouses, the size of each and the approximate ceiling height.
- A plan or photos showing gates, loading doors, aisles and perimeter.
- Working hours and number of shifts, and whether the site is empty at night.
- The retention you need, and whether you want phone viewing or motion alerts.
- Existing cabling and power, and the distance between the warehouse and the office.
- Whether you need access control, a fire alarm or a maintenance contract in the quote.
Costs for large warehouses vary a lot with cable length and the number of outdoor cameras — see our security systems cost guide.
Warehouse CCTV: common questions
Can the cameras read number plates at night?
You need a dedicated gate camera with the right angle and lens and enough lighting. Ask the installer to test the night image before handover.
The warehouse is far from my office — how do I follow it?
Most systems allow phone viewing over the internet, with alerts for movement out of hours. The site needs a stable connection.
Does the heat affect outdoor cameras?
Yes, so you need cameras with a suitable protection rating, mounting that limits direct sun, and ventilation for the equipment cabinet.
Do you provide guards for the warehouse?
No. We don’t offer security guarding. SaudiSecurity only connects you with licensed installers of cameras, alarms and access control.
