Home and farm cameras in Madinah
Many families in Madinah have a house in the city and a farm or istiraha on the outskirts that they visit at weekends. At home you want to know who is at the door; at the farm you want reassurance while you are away for days. Two different systems — both viewable from one phone.
This page focuses on those two cases. For the general basics of home cameras, see home CCTV.

Villas in the new districts
In the districts spreading out from the city, villas usually have long boundary walls, a vehicle gate and a pedestrian door. The core coverage is the gate, the main door and the parking, plus a video doorbell or intercom that shows visitors on your phone.
If the villa is still being finished, now is the best time to run network cables inside the walls before plastering and painting — even if you fit the cameras later.
Farms and istirahas: sometimes far from power and internet
A farm usually needs only a few cameras, but over long distances: the gate, the equipment and pump room, and the date or feed store. Without fixed internet, the installer can suggest a SIM-based router; if the power supply is unreliable, ask about a backup battery or a solar option.
Add an alarm system that alerts your phone if the store or equipment room is opened while you are away.
Privacy: the neighbour’s farm and the neighbour’s house
On neighbouring farms the boundary wall can be low, and a high camera may expose the next farm and the family using it. Keep the angle on your own land and use privacy masking where needed. At home, no cameras overlooking neighbours’ courtyards or windows, and no publishing of footage. More in our home camera privacy guide.
Midday heat and cold nights
The gap between midday heat and cold winter nights in Madinah is large, and it wears out cameras not built for outdoor use. Choose outdoor cameras rated for a wide temperature range, mount them in shade where possible, and clean the lenses after every dusty spell — especially on open farmland.
FAQ
Can farm cameras work without internet?
Yes. Recording goes to a recorder on site or a memory card in the camera, and you review it when you visit. Live view and phone alerts, though, need a connection — even a SIM-based one.
Do I need a camera for every door of the villa?
Not necessarily. One well-placed camera can cover the gate and parking together, with another for the main door. The technician sets the number after seeing the wall and entrances.
Is one SIM camera enough for an istiraha?
It may be for a small istiraha with one entrance. With several entrances or a store, a small system with a recorder is clearer and easier to review.
A worker lives on my farm — where should the cameras go?
Cover the gate, the store, the equipment room and the open areas, and keep the worker’s living quarters and toilet completely out of view. It is best to tell the worker where the cameras are from the start.
